North Carolina calls the service North Carolina Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification, or NC SAVAN, and delivers person searches through VINELink. The official NC SAVAN page describes a statewide automated information and notification system. County jail data and NCDAC state prison data both feed the service. This gives Guilford County users a central place to check a participating custody source and register for notifications.

Coverage is not a merger of records. Greensboro Detention Center and High Point Detention Center are GCSO custody sources. NCDAC is the state prison and community-supervision source. Search Guilford County VINELink Records

An alert is a prompt to verify, not a guarantee of the person's present location. After the notice, reopen the record and contact the source agency if the movement type is unclear.

Source Labels Shape Guilford Alerts

North Carolina's two-layer feed is the distinctive issue for a Guilford County VINELink check. State policy says both county jail data and state prison data feed SAVAN. A GCSO alert means Guilford County reported a custody event. An NCDAC alert means the state correction system reported its own event. The same person's name in both records does not turn them into a single continuous custody file.

Consider a state commitment. GCSO may report an event when county custody ends, but the person can appear as an active NCDAC inmate after transport. Later, NCDAC may report release from prison with post-release supervision. Those are two lawful, different events. Record the source each time. This prevents the phrase “VINELink says released” from becoming a claim that the person returned to the community or completed every part of a sentence.

The reverse check matters too. An NCDAC release event does not prove that a person has no county hold or new case. Search the court record and contact the custodian named by current facts. Source labels make the sequence readable: GCSO county custody, NCDAC prison custody, NCDAC supervision, or another agency. Keep each event in its own lane and report only the supported change.

NC SAVAN Release Support

The state page anchors the service in North Carolina government, while VINELink supplies the person-search and notification interface. Use the state contact when a notification behaves incorrectly. For exact custody disposition, contact the contributing jail or NCDAC rather than asking the notification vendor to certify an agency record.

NC SAVAN also differs from the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. The registry applies only to people with a reportable registration duty and is not a general release locator. A registry entry can reflect a post-release duty, but it does not show the jail processing time. Keep registry questions separate from the VINELink custody event.

For a person with a reportable duty, GCSO says the state registry may first show a pending status after prison or jail release, followed by county registration. That sequence concerns registration. It does not certify the original release disposition, clear other custody, or apply to people outside that narrow statutory group. Use the registry only for its stated purpose and VINELink only for the source-reported custody event.

Confirm Guilford County VINELink Releases

VINELink is strong for alerts and source-reported custody events, but it has defined limits. It does not replace the BOP locator for federal prisoners, the federal court record or USMS route for some federal detainees, or ICE ODLS for immigration custody. This matters in Guilford because Greensboro Jail Central can house a small federal population. A GCSO event can occur while federal custody continues.
